One man's trash is another's treasure

Here's a picture-heavy post about yesterday's thrift store finds! Haha. Here we go :)

I added a black sash I already had to give it shape, match the tights and make it more winter-appropriate.

I'm going to shorten the hem a little. It feels a little grandma-ish right now. Puffy sleeves and high neckline don't go well with midi skirts (on me!).

* Cashmere! Sorry for the misspelling, my french takes over sometimes! The cape still has the original tags attached to it... Super clean, super warm.

Shiny stuff! Ahhhhh!

Now I must disinfect these...

The newest addition to my collection is...

a Pentax ME SLR film camera with a 50mm f1.7 lens! I got it for next to nothing at the Value Village. Yes, I went thrifting today! Tomorrow, I'll show you what I took home :)

Born to Die

This is the potential outfit I was talking about yesterday: my new blouse with the fake leather skirt. They look great together! I think I'm going to wear this on January 1st. I'll add a cardigan, though, since I'm going to my Mamie's house for dinner. She would totally approve the bare shoulders, but her place can get cold sometimes.

Do you notice something is missing? MY BANGS! I just came back from work and I haven't showered yet. Like a need a shower right now... My boss called me so I could help another waiter with a group of 40 people, but finally they were just 20 and I was sent home with a free lunch to compensate (no tips = very low salary). The only thing I did at my job today was making two pitchers of juice and reading the newspaper while waiting for the group to arrive. Oh, well. That said, I rarely wear my bangs to work. I usually pin them up so they don't get sweaty and gross. But I do feel naked without them!

Shoes: Divided // Big ivory ring: H&M

I am in love with Lana Del Rey's song Born to Die. I put it on reapeat for the last two hours and I can't get enough of it. And how pretty does she look on the cover art? The hair, the lips (which nearly look normal), the FREAKIN' COLLARED BLOUSE.

Don't make me sad, don't make me cry
Sometimes love is not enough and the road gets tough
I don't know why
Keep making me laugh,
Let's go get high
The road is long, we carry on
Try to have fun in the meantime

Come and take a walk on the wild side
Let me kiss you hard in the pouring rain
You like your girls insane
Choose your last words
This is the last time
Cause you and I, we were born to die

Well, not much to say about this outfit. It's soooo cozy and comfortable! Too much for words. Haha. I am wearing my favourite dress with my favourite necklace, favourite shoes (that I can't wear outside right now) and favourite tights. I love to wear warm colours in the winter. It puts me in a better mood, since I'm really not a winter person! I dislike snow gear and road slush as well as the extra-cold Québec weather. Last Friday, it was -21°C outside. Eek! I'm glad I invested in a warm coat this year... It's a camel-coloured duffle coat from Simons (this one). It's lined with soft plush and I love its trapeze shape. So feminine!

Today Gab and I did some errands. There were way too many people at the mall... the Boxing Day sales are still going on, so people rush to the stores to snag ''deals'' that were exactly the same last week. Okay, well, not exactly the same. While Gab was exchanging a too small shirt he received for Christmas, I couldn't resist a Vero Moda blouse (the one that was on my December lust list) that was half priced. I did not have the patience to wait in line for 20 minutes before trying it on, so I just picked a size and hoped for a good fit. I tried it on as soon as I got home and it looks great! Now I must find a way to style it... I'm thinking about pairing it with my fake leather circle skirt (this one). The sheer, blush colour of the blouse and the pearly collar would be a nice counterbalance to the toughness of the skirt. We'll see!

On a side note - I can't stop listening to Cults' self-titled album. I discovered this indie pop band two years ago when their single Go Outside took its first step into the blogosphere and I immediately dug their summery retro-pop vibe. Their first full length album came out last May (it was about time!) and it's very good. I definitely recommend it if you enjoy xylophone melodies, reverb and sugary girl voices.

Here's the video of their song Abducted.

I have a new comforter! They had this huge blowout at Zellers and they had 10$ comforters. When we received the flyers earlier this week, I immediately noticed the one with the kitschy deer print. The sale began this morning, so I went to the store and snagged one! Even if I have a twin bed, I took the double-sized one (more deer!). See how cute it looks in my avocado green room...

70's vinyl record... A little home staging here!

''I am a magic princess from the woods''

''You sure look like one!'' said mom. She doesn't approve this outfit.

Here's a non exhaustive list of her comments:

''Hey little girl! You have a dead cat on your back.''
''T'as d'l'eau dans cave'' (Québec idiom for ''Damn, your pants are too short in a dorky way'')
''Are you could or something? You don't need to wear this inside!''
''Amerindian princess in moccasins'' (I was wearing my moccasin slippers when she said this one)
''You look like you're from the back of the woods''

Back to this classic ''Noémie likes her outfit'' pose

And last but not least, the silly ''Let's add a hat!'' pose.

You know what? It's pretty cool to look like an Amerindian princess in moccasins! Pocahontas has always been my favourite Disney princess, anyway (since Meg from Hercules is not a princess). She's the smartest and the prettiest and she has a pet raccoon. Plus, she gets to make out with John Smith (my favourite male Disney character). Take that, mom.

While we're at it... Let's sing along to my favourite song from Hercules!

EDIT: I had forgotten to write the outfit details... So here we go.

Corduroy pants: Les folles de joie via Urban Outfitters (20$ // sale)
Top: Zara (5$ // sale)
Vest: H&M (17$)
Belt: came with a pair of shorts
Earrings: Aldo (6$)
Hat: dollar store (1$)
Wedges: H&M

Same old stuff

I was digging through my virtual archive of uncompleted personals projects and I found this PSD file of a wallpaper from 2010 that I never finished. I'm going to work on it! I like the idea of clean, straight lines and minimalist design. It looks pretty neat already.

Here's another thing I found on my hard drive. It's a wallpaper I made back in 2008. I erased a few stars, changed the text and cropped it to give it a second life.

Fruit Punch

It's so drab and cloudy outside! I decided to wear sunny colours to compensate for the bad weather. I really like how light pink and burnt orange look together. It reminds me of tropical punch!

I spent the afternoon shopping for my boyfriend's gift, since I couldn't do it yesterday (he was with me!). He hates shopping for clothes, so he asked for some. Therefore, I spent the afternoon wandering in the men's section of Urban Outfitters and trying on men's clothes to get an approximative idea of their size and fit. I often sleep in my BF's tees, so I know how he likes his shirts to fit, but for the pants, I have no idea... I hope they're the right size!

Well, enough with the men's clotges, let's talk about my womanly outfit! I purchased these boots for 5$ in 2009 and I had never worn them until today! They matched my belt, so they finally took a stroll into town. Speaking of the belt... it's a toddler's size! My little brothers wore it when they were tiny children, so it's very small. I really wish it would fit my hips, but it doesn't, so I put it on my waist instead.
