Strange Magic

You guys. I had been searching for the perfect mint-colored dress for such a long time! The folks at Sway Chic were super nice to send me this skater dress to style on the blog. Isn't it lovely? I had never seen this find of fabric before: it's embossed - kind of like paper towels - and so soft! I wanted to pair the dress with a pastel green or yellow cardigan like this outfit from New Girl, but it was way too hot outside to wear extra layers. Instead, I wore it with my newest thrift store finds and added my good old flower crown and a tiny deer necklace for a touch of fun. I already have a bunch of remixing ideas involving the dress! Next time, I think I'll try to wear it as a jumper on top of a peter pan collar blouse.

In other news: I got a job! Yay! I needed a "safe" job to combine with my freelancing and I got hired as a full-time stylist in a nearby boutique. I'm starting in September. It's a bit stressful, since I've never worked in retail before. I'm glad to have a fashion-related job, but I hope everything will be fine. Fingers crossed!

Mixtape Mondays • Volume 1

Public announcement: I declare that Mondays suck.

But wait, I also declare that from now on, Mondays will rhyme with "weekly mixtape"! This week's edition of Mixtape Mondays includes 21 tracks of psychedelic, rock, garage and general awesomeness. I even made some rad original full-color cover art, just because.

That's right, Jules. Scroll down, hit play and get to work already ;-)

A Switcheroo

This is Pascal. We like each other. A while ago, we stumbled upon Canadian photographer Hana Pesut's ongoing series Switcheroo (see it here). As photographers, fashion enthusiasts and overall odd duo, we really liked the concept and thought it would be fun to give it a try.

After shooting the pictures, we roamed around the most touristic part of Québec City in our newly exchanged outfits to gauge people's reactions. While most people smiled, others were visibly uncomfortable and avoided eye contact. A bunch of people thought it was some kind of bachelor's dare and congratulated us on our wedding (what?!) and an opera singer stopped her thing to chat with us. We even met my landlord, who looked quite puzzled by the concept. Ha!

I went deceptively unnoticed, but Pascal had nearly 2 hours of street fame. He was very popular with the older ladies and little children. Someone even took his picture, which made me super jealous. This town ain't big enough for the two of us, ya hear?

Here's a collage for comparison:

Scary Monsters + Super Creeps

Yay, Friday! Well, right now I don't really have a reason to be particularly fond of Fridays, since I'm currently self-employed and working whenever I want to. I spent most of today in my pajamas, doodling on my freshly painted chalkboard door and cabinets. My landlord may or may not kill me when I move out  of this apartment (someday!), but for now, my giant chalkboards are making me the happiest girl in the world.

...but I digress; I eventually got dressed up and went to the Morgan Bridge Gallery. They're currently showing this rad exhibition called La Tempête des Monstres ("Storm of Monsters") by Montreal-based illustrator Tyson Bodnarchuk. With his paintings of monsters in all shapes and colors, Bodnarchuk has found the perfect recipe of cute and creepy. I kept trying to find my favorite monster and felt just like a 5-year-old kid. Ha! I'm still figuring out my style as an illustrator and I'm super impressed by experienced illustrators' work. I hope that someday my illustrations will achieve the same degree of graphic personality. I'd better get back to work! ;)
