Cola Cola

Hello there! I spent most of the weekend enjoying my newly furnished living room. Seriously, I can't get over how awesome it looks now that I have a proper, non self-destructing couch. Try sleeping on the same low-quality futon for two entire years and then using it as an actual let's-sit-on-this couch. Not good - it kept falling back into bed position and poking my back with its broken springs. But I digress. I was lucky enough to find the matching chair as well. The duo makes the room look like pretty cohesive despite the fact that none of my furniture comes from the same era. Even my cheap melamine bookshelf looks great with the new  (old?) stuff. All that's missing is a rug and I'll be the happiest homebody in the world! I will post pictures of my lovely abode someday soon, but I must find my dream rug first!

EDIT: I forgot to mention that I recently traded my 1.5 room apartment for a nifty 4.5 room, hence the excitement!

Guy trying to photobomb me, obviously.

Since I'm stuck at home eagerly waiting for some furniture to be delivered, I thought I would stop by ye olde blog to do a little recap of the past weeks. Here we go!

Bought a used sofa, currently waiting for it to be delivered • Moving, being poor, hanging vinyl records as legit art
Saddest non-fizzy DIY bath bombs ever • Prescription glasses! Good hair day! Best outfit ever! Yay!
Astrology for cats (super useless, I don't even know Guy's birthday) • Curling up with blankets and this little fuzz ball
Still wearing this blouse after 3 years • Stealing my man's jeans and blogging about it

I hope you are all enjoying your weekend <3

Amoureux d'une affiche

Today was the perfect day off. Really, perfect. I was supposed to do freelance design work in an office, but I woke up to an e-mail saying they had decided to put off the project until next week. So... I had a terrific breakfast, took a warm shower, went back to bed 'til 1PM,  had a second breakfast, did my hair in a nice way, managed to declutter a section of my apartment, hand-washed a bunch of stuff in the tub, sorted my record collection while eating too much chocolate, read a big pile of magazines, watched a few episodes of Seinfeld and cuddled with the cat. Oh, and I wore the best outfit ever which I just had to chronicle here! Of course I wasn't wearing a delicate lace vest while doing chores, but still. Yay for wearing fancy outfits at home!

Last picture but not least, 60's model / extravagant art school teacher pose. I couldn't help it ;)

I've Told Every Little Star

This outfit comes straight from my archive of unposted looks (you can even see my nose ring, RIP). I took these pictures on an extremely hot and humid day, hence the pinned bangs. I remember going through this phase of being obsessed with vintage scarves and huge bow clips. Oh, and shoes with really sharp spikes! There were safety warning stickers on the soles of these. To this day, I still (secretly!) feel like the most badass lady ever when I slip them on. They elevate the most simplest dresses to a whole new level of awesomeness.

What is your craziest, most extravagant pair of shoes?

The New Girl

Today, I started a new gig as a freelance designer for a toy store. It went great! My coworkers were super welcoming and I had lots of different projects to work on, which kept me wide awake and made the day pass too quickly. It was so refreshing to do what I love and actually get paid for it (aka what should pretty much be the initial concept of work).

Since graduating college a little over a year ago (eek! time flies!), I have split my time between freelancing for a month or two doing, then doing random minimum wage jobs and going back to freelancing. Sometimes, it can be quite demotivating not to be able to do design full-time! It's a classic case of "I have spent [insert number here] years of my life studying design and photography - not [insert random  side-job chore I loathe]". But hey! I am young and freelancing offers me the opportunity to figure out what type of office (or non-office) is best for me. So far, I have worked in a  big creative agency, a small studio, two corporations and I also did freelance work on my own. The variety made me more aware of who I am as a designer and what I need to be happy and fulfilled at work. Now I need to work towards obtaining (or maybe building?) the job of my dreams. I am focusing on all the great things my work experiences of the past year have taught me rather than just pondering why I don't have a full-time gig yet.

The most important thing I learned this year is that most creative jobs are a journey, not something included in a bundle along with your diploma. You have to put time, effort and lots of patience in order to make a career out of it. You need to keep learning and creating - more, more and always more. Keep that in mind and go get your hands dirty already. You've got this! :)

Candid Thoughts On Blogging

Snapping these first "real" outfit pictures in almost a year was fun! I visited my favorite semi-abandoned backyard and everything went perfectly. I used to fear the possibility of someone catching me doing faces and fashion-y poses alone in my corner, but now I am way more relaxed about it. No more paranoia!

Here's a confession: my timidity almost made me quit style blogging altogether. I was insecure about how people would perceive me if they found out I had a blog with 1) all kinds of personal thoughts and 2) so many pictures of myself. I got teased a bit about this whole fashion thing by family and friends and it made me doubt if style blogging was something acceptable to do. And you know what? It is.

I had a few job interviews over the last months and every single interviewer asked me why my blog was now inactive. They liked how I had merged some of my biggest passions into one entity. Fashion, writing, photography, design... this blog of mine offered me a chance to do all of this. So why abandon it like I did? Sure, I had a busy year, but I had quit blogging because of insecurity and shyness. I've always had a bit of a I-don't-care-what-you-think attitude, but this time, I had let other people make me doubt of something I was passionate about. And I was too proud to admit it - even my lovely boyfriend asked me why I wouldn't blog anymore and I kept denying. I had stopped writing, taking pictures, making playlists for the blog, designing little graphics, thinking about DIY projects... and I was wondering why I was so miserable. This blog was my playground, a little world I had built for myself to share inspiration and I had stopped visiting it.

I think now is a good time to claim back this playground. The blogging scene has changed a whole lot in the past year(s), but I know who I am and what I like. I do not blog for likes, recognition or a seat at local events. I blog for passion and solace. This blog was created by a suburban 17-year-old who had just gotten into design school, was experimenting with personal style and obsessing with street style photography. Sure, I have evolved, but this 17-year-old was building something without even knowing. She had stars in her eyes, big dreams for her future and had fun sharing all of these.

I blog to keep that spark alive.

This Is The Day

Here are a few self-portraits I took in my apartment, featuring my absolute favourite vintage dress. I love wearing clothes that possess a unique vibe and a bit of history! This dress has the loveliest ethereal shape and some delightful crochet details. However, it is super fragile so it's more of a collection piece that I save for special occasions. It has more than 40 years of existence, after all. I must take great care of it!

Side note: I'm obsessed with shooting RAW and editing my pictures in Adobe Lightroom. Taking outfit photos inside my apartment is pretty hard since the lighting is quite poor, but I can fix it in Lightroom without destroying the originals. I like how these photos turned out, especially the rainbow sorbet colours of my dress! Just one thing: I should have smiled. Hehe.

Memphis Blues Again

I must admit that writing a blog post after such a long absence is incredibly bizarre - I almost feel like a stranger on my own blog. Never mind! I was going through my hard drive and found some outfit shots I took last October. It took these on a very windy day, just 30 minutes before sunset - my favourite conditions to take pictures. Even if the wind makes my hair go nuts (so. many. tangles), I love how it gives movement to clothing. With long pleated skirts, the effect is almost surreal and clearly worth the consequent hair untangling session ;)
